Asbestos Surveys
Not sure which survey you need? We'll tell you - and carry it out to a standard your architect, contractor, or local authority can rely on.
What is an asbestos survey?
An asbestos survey is a formal inspection of a building to identify, locate, and assess any materials that may contain asbestos. Samples are taken, sent to an accredited laboratory for analysis, and the findings are compiled into a detailed written report.
The type of survey required depends on the building and the circumstances. We carry out four survey types - each suited to different situations.
Survey types
MAS
Management Survey
A non-intrusive survey for buildings in normal occupation. Identifies and records accessible asbestos-containing materials so they can be monitored and managed safely. Required by law for any commercial premises built before 2004.
Re-inspection
Re-Inspection Survey
A periodic revisit to a building with a known asbestos register. Checks the condition of previously identified materials, updates risk assessments, and confirms ongoing compliance. The HSA recommends annual re-inspection for commercial premises.
Bulk sampling
Bulk Sampling
A targeted service for when a specific material needs testing without a full survey. We take a physical sample, send it to a UKAS-accredited laboratory, and report back on whether asbestos is present — useful when a single material is in question.
RDAS
Refurbishment & Demolition Survey
An intrusive survey required before any building work, renovation, or demolition on a pre-2004 property. Accesses structural elements to locate all asbestos-containing materials in the scope of works.
